New Respect For Poker Pro Gavin Smith!

I have to start out by saying that I always wondered why the hell or better yet HOW the hell is this guy a professional poker player.  I would watch him play on the World Poker Tour and see him play shit cards and yet continue to make big money.  I seriously thought that Gavin Smith was a complete donkey!

Well that has slowly changed ever since he started on the poker road radio show.  He had a good sense of humor and some nice thoughts on how Joe Sebok should of played hands in tourneys.  Apparently this is a common theme of the show as Joe Sebok has the nickname “Seventhbok” to bring out his ability to go out in 7th place of a WPT tournament (the WPT has a final table of only 6 people).

Well these past few weeks Gavin Smith was on Card Player.com for a two part interview that I found to be very good.  He came across as being very level headed and a good guy.  Anybody that can laugh at themselves can’t be that bad a guy.

Throw on top of that his win in Poker After Dark defending a very tough table that included Mike “the Mouth” Matusow, Phil Helmuth, Jennifer Harmon, and Mike Sexton.   It was great as he beat Helmuth heads up when Phil was getting slapped by the deck on both sides of his face.  I have never seen anyone on Poker After Dark that got hit by the deck that hard!

I thought that Gavin was a great professional while facing verbal attacks from Helmuth when Gavin started to chip away at him.  He never attacked back once but instead messed with Phil’s head by changing gears, which seemed like by the hand, and eventually hit a two outer on the river when all the money was in the middle already.

I am a fan of Gavin Smith!
